Welcome to Lancaster County

Touch the Past, Celebrate the Future

Did you know that:

Lancaster was the one-day capitol of the U.S. Continental Congress which,

while fleeing the English, met here on September 27, 1777?

Lancaster County residents speak 55 different languages?

Lancaster County provided key stations in the Underground Railroad?

Lancaster County has the most productive farmland per acre in the U.S.?

And that’s just for starters. There’s much more to know about us, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.

We also know how important it is to a successful convention to have intellectual stimulation. We are proud that three of our members have been Paxton Award winners, two of them winning twice. We also believe that presentation is as important as content so we have set, as a goal, the selection of speakers who are energetic, well qualified, well spoken and well prepared to answer your questions.

For example, our kick-off speaker, on Thursday night, will tell you about a group of people who came to Pennsylvania where many of them settled, and still live; no, not the Quakers, and not the Amish.  His talk is entitled, “Don’t Tell Me What To Do! The Scots-Irish and the Shaping of America.” Think of the images of Sean Connery, Harrison Ford or Maureen O’Hara.

Also, as you know, it will be just a little over four months before the Presidential election. So, on Saturday morning, you will hear from a nationally known political polling expert. You’ll find more information about our speakers elsewhere on this site.

There are many more reasons to join the approximately 8,000,000 people who visit Lancaster County each year. We want you among them. We want you in Lancaster in 2008.

Why might you want us? Because Lancaster is historically, architecturally, culturally, scenically, gastronomically rich and ready to share. So please plan to join us in Lancaster and…Touch the Past, Celebrate the Future.

xx
