Celebrating 100 Years of Torch!
Since 1924, the International Association of Torch Clubs, has been inspiring communities in the United States and Canada by sharing the light of its members' ideas. Founded by a group of intellectually inquisitive professionals in Minneapolis, Torch clubs hold monthly meetings where club members or invited speakers address various ideas and interests. Today, we are a highly interactive organization where members discuss stimulating subjects ranging from history to science to the arts and much more. Our members are professionals with a broad range of experience presenting and discussing ideas from diverse viewpoints. Over its century of exploring the world of ideas, Torch has launched The Torch magazine, featuring the best of member presentations, the annual Paxton Award recognizing the year’s best article, our annual convention hosted in a Torch club city, and the Torch Foundation. Looking Back Torch has a rich history, and our first half-century is captured in The Story of Torch: The First Fifty Years of the International Association of Torch Clubs by Thomas Carroll (Lincoln). This compelling account details the journey of our organization’s growth, its impact, and the legacy that has shaped the next 50 years. Honoring the Work Behind Sharing the Light As part of our centennial celebration, we are proud to present Sharing the Light, a commemorative volume that captures the remarkable journey of Torch over the past 100 years. This incredible project was made possible by the dedication and hard work of an amazing committee, led by Doug Punger (Winston-Salem) and John Tordiff (St. Catharines). Their leadership and the tireless efforts of their team have ensured that Torch’s rich legacy is preserved and celebrated as we look forward to keeping the flame alight for centuries to come. Here’s to the next 100 years of Sharing the Light! |
